5 things to know about OL Dion Dawkins

Here are five things you should know about the newest member of the Buffalo Bills, Temple OL Dion Dawkins.

1. No freshman blues

A New Jersey native, Dawkins enrolled in Temple University in January 2013. Let's just say freshman jitters were non-existent. Starting in each of his first five games with the Owls, Dawkins was one of just four true freshman to start at the left tackle position in NCAA that year.

2. Mental toughness? Check.

After suffering a season-ending foot injury midway through his rookie campaign, Dawkins proved just how tough he can be. Coming back better than ever in 2014, Dawkins earned a spot on the starting lineup at left tackle. Making 11 starts that year, Dawkins made a name for himself as one of the most physically and mentally tough players on the squad.

3.Accolades all day

Over the course of his tenure at Temple, Dawkins played in 44 games, started in 41 and tallied up some pretty impressive accolades along the way. A two time All-American Athletic Conference First Team selection, Dawkins helped pave the way for Temple running backs, Jahad Thomas and Ryquell Armstead, to record more than 900 yards rushing each last season.

4. Protecting the passer

An anchor on Temple's O-Line, Dawkins was also known as a quality pass protector. Allowing just nine total quarterback pressures in 2016, Dawkins was instrumental in managing Temple quarterback Phillip Walker's blind side.

5.Handstand champ

It looks like Bills guard Richie Incognito isn't the only one who has some tricks up his sleeve (i.e. uncanny ability to touch his toes). Dawkins, who was recently challenged to prove his handstand skills, took to Twitter to silence the doubters. Don't think a 6-4, 314-pound guy can get the job done? See for yourself.
